Jenny Hodgkinson

Child Counsellor & Parent Coach
I have extensive experience of working with children as a primary school teacher, a children’s church pastor and a school counsellor.

I enjoy helping children who may be experiencing grief and loss, anxiety and stress, anger, or any other issues at home or at school. I work in a child-centred way using sand tray, play therapy, games, art and stories alongside talking, to help children identify and express their feelings and find positive ways for them to manage these and feel better about their life. I also work alongside parents to help them better understand their children and develop effective strategies to meet their needs.
My formal qualifications are a BA in Education, a Graduate Diploma in Child Mental Health and a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and I am a full member of NZCCA. I am also a mother of two daughters and a grandmother of five wonderful grandchildren.

Jenny Coleman

Individual Counselling
Hi, I am a third year student currently studying full time through Bethlehem Tertiary Institute. I have spent a large amount of my life working as a dairy farmer and almost as long as a support worker. I was called to counselling by God when I was in Sydney working as a missionary with ‘Youth With A Mission’. I returned to New Zealand in 2007 to my home town of Wellsford, then moved to Tauranga in 2017.

I am also the mother of three children who hold professional jobs, with a son in IT and promotions, one daughter is a legal executive and the youngest daughter is a chartered accountant and married to a GP/orthopaedic surgeon.

Predominantly I have been working with clients who have experienced trauma, depression and grief.

My desire is to see a client’s life transformed, from despair to potential. Walking in freedom and hope for the future.

Individual Counselling
I am passionate about offering a sensitive, safe, non-judgmental and empathic place where people can process problematic issues in their lives. I enjoy working with individuals and couples with a wide range of issues. Examples include, grief and loss, stress and anxiety, depression, trauma, communication issues, and relationship struggles. I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches which are found to be effective in helping people identify and deal with issues which cause them to feel trapped in their lives. These approaches include Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman, and Presence Oriented Relational Therapy (PORT).
I have a Bachelor of Counselling and I am a provisional member of NZCCA. In addition, I bring 17 years of working as an Occupational Therapist, together with my life experience as a wife and mother of teenagers, to my counselling practice.
