Reasons for getting baptised
Relationship
Baptism serves as a public declaration of one’s faith in Jesus Christ. It is a symbolic act that signifies a personal commitment to follow Christ and live according to His teachings. By being baptised, individuals openly proclaim their allegiance to Jesus and their identification with His death, burial, and resurrection.
Obedience
Baptism is a command given by Jesus Himself as part of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). He instructed His followers to baptise new believers in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Obedience to this command is an expression of submission to Christ’s authority and a step of faith in following His teachings.
Intimacy
Baptism symbolises spiritual cleansing and renewal. The act of immersion in water represents the washing away of sins and the emergence into a new life in Christ. It is a powerful symbol of the forgiveness and redemption offered through Jesus Christ, signifying a person’s decision to leave behind their old way of life and embrace a transformed, Christ-centered existence.
Hope
Baptism serves as a powerful symbol of the believer’s hope in the resurrection. Just as Jesus emerged from the grave, victorious over sin and death, baptism represents the believer’s anticipation of a resurrected life. It underscores the Christian belief in the promise of eternal life and the hope of being raised with Christ.
